In my opinion, designing "killer" (i.e. hip, cool, awesome, great, or just plain effective) trade show booths isn't brain surgery. It's a simple matter of common sense. But unfortunately, simple common sense doesn't mean it is "simple" or "common" to find "killer" (i.e. effective) trade show booths at most trade shows. Judging by many of the trade show designs I've seen, it seems that more often than not, trade show exhibitors miss the mark and don't have a clear message. But by reading this article and following these basic steps, you'll be able to design and create a "common sense" effective trade show booth that bring traffic to your trade show booth - traffic that you can then turn into leads and customers (and isn't that the fundamental point behind trade show exhibiting?). All you've got to do is focus on these simple three things to insure your design does the job.

First, your booth has catch people's attention when they are passing by your booth space. Think of your trade show booth as a needle in a haystack. Your booth design must differentiate your booth from all the other ones. If you don't get their attention, people will just keep going to see the next "interesting" booth. A big, bold, "in your face" background picture will almost always take care of this first step.

Second, your design needs to clearly state who you are and what it is that you do. Use big letters for your company name and put it at the top. Your design must also state in plain language what it is that you do. If people can't look at your display and immediately know who you are and what you do, you need to start your design over.

Third, you need to clearly state "what's in it for me" for your potential prospect. Your design won't be effective if it doesn't answer this question. Prospects legitimately care about themselves first, and want to know what you can do for them. For example, if you a cell phone company, you might say how wide (and good) your coverage is. Your design, not matter what, must include how you can help or benefit your customer.

In summary, designing "killer" trade show booths means having a crystal clear message that accomplishes the three steps above. Your design must stand out from the crowd and get noticed. You need a design that states who you are and explains what you do. And finally, your design must communicate the benefits you offer. Make sure your trade show booth design is effective and covers these three points, and be more successful with your trade show marketing. Here's wishing you good luck at your next trade show!
